No Sense at All off of Overdue by Charlie Harrison

Sometimes you stumble into something good.

Lyrics

Verse 1

She wore a tank top in 40 degrees

I guess she knew the effect it would have on me

The cowboys watched her shiver across the parking lot

Ordered up a whiskey while I was drinking beer

Said “You better learn to dance if you want to get me out of here”

I went looking for trouble and trouble is what I got.

Chorus

She don’t make dinner

I don’t make money

Sometimes we don’t make sense at all

But the longer I’m headed in the wrong direction

The less I’m looking for a course correction

and the more I think, I’m lost where i belong

Verse 2

She likes dancing in the clubs downtown

I like to stumble across the hardwoods and then fall down

we tend to move the beats of two different drums

But you outta see us when we find our rhythm

Coming together like a car collision

Who knew being wrong was so much fun

Chorus

Verse 3

I got drunk and I said let’s marry,

My friends said what did you do this time

Cause I’m not known for making good decisions

When I mix my decision making with my wine

But a couple of months and we threw it all together. with a little bit of help from her parents and mine

If we can survive planning that wedding, we can survive the rest of our lives

Chorus

Drinking Pushed me to Drinking off of Overdue

Sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees.

Lyrics

It’s been a week since I’ve been sober
I had a good time, but the party is done
I am flat busted broken down in this shady motel
But all that I can think of is getting drunk

Chorus:
Drinking pushed me to drinking
I wiskeyed away my woman and my life
now the only thing that makes my life seem any better now at all
Is one more pull of this little bottle of mine

Rolled home  four AM yesterday morning
The house was dark, the sheets were cold
She said you got your friends at the bar to help you do your drinking
I don’t think you’ll miss having a friend at home

Chorus:
Drinking pushed me to drinking
I wiskeyed away my woman and my life
now the only thing that makes my life seem any better now at all
Is one more pull of this little bottle of mine

Headed back to Houston off of Overdue

I wrote this song one night on a couch in Alexandria VA. Like most of my songs, it just came out all at once. An old theme, but one that struck me that evening. This version was recorded live with Buddy Speir playing the dobro at Cue Studios.

Me playing my song “No Sense at All”. “…She don’t make dinner, and I don’t make money”
